I attended the Bushcraft, Survival and Wilderness Living Level 2 Qualification in Oct 24 and it was a fantastic weekend. Matt was welcoming and extremely knowledgeable on all the subjects, and although I have done a lot of bushcraft as a scout leader, I learned an amazing amount of tips, tricks and completely new techniques. The course had people of all ages and backgrounds on it, and this helped to make it a friendly and fun weekend learning from other participants’ experiences as well as the instructors. This was my second Peak District Survival School course and I am sure I will be back for a third one!
I have just spent the weekend taking part in Peak District Survival School’s L2 Qualification, it was by far one of the best courses I’ve been on. Matt was informative, friendly and supportive throughout the weekend. Whether you are thinking about this course as CPD or simply for your own personal interests I cannot recommend it enough. Great weekend! Thank you
Mark runs a fantastic course. I’ve been on a few over the years and this was by far the most practical and fun I’ve been on. Great teaching. Easy instruction and filled me with loads of confidence as an instructor going forwards. Cannot recommend him highly enough.
I did the Axe & Knife throwing course with Mark! Id never really thrown or run any axe throwing sessions before the course and after I feel very confident with multiple different projectiles and feel very confident providing a safe and knowledgeable axe throwing lesson/activity! The site is very nice and there’s always a lovely fire and coffees on the go!
Cannot praise Mark Fox’s teaching skills enough. I attended a 2 day NCFE bush craft course where I was able to hone my survival skills as well as further developing my knowledge for my own teaching. Thank you for such a remarkable experience
What a fantastic day had by all! Mark and Tim are great and they ensure that every child feels valued and included throughout the entire session. Every child said how great their day was and they all felt so pleased with themselves. Some children even over came their fears and it was lovely to see every child thrive.
I joined Mark and Matt for the weekend on the Level 3 Range Master, Outdoor Axe, Knife and Tomahawk Throwing Instructor course. The two days took place in their Peak District location and it was a great fun weekend. Both Mark and Matt gave us first-class advice on the Safety, Technique and Commercial Aspects of running an Axe Throwing Range and I now have the skills, commercial knowledge and confidence to run a range for myself. Highly Recommend. I will be back for more of their courses.
We recently had the privilege of having a workshop hosted by the Peak District Survival School, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to share my experience. Our company, Anstar, was treated to an unforgettable day of team building and survival skills that left a lasting impact.
It was clear that the Peak District Survival School team takes professionalism and enthusiasm to the next level. Their meticulous planning and high-quality equipment made the day both engaging and organized.
The instructors were not only experts in their field but exceptional educators. We learned valuable techniques and, more importantly, how to work together effectively. The hands-on activities, were not just educational but incredibly fun.
What truly sets Peak District Survival School apart is their unwavering commitment to safety. They made sure every participant felt secure, allowing us to fully enjoy the experience. The stunning natural backdrop of the Peak District added to the overall atmosphere, making it a day to remember.
We can’t recommend this experience enough to other organizations looking to strengthen their team dynamics.
If you’re considering a workshop to boost your team’s skills and cohesion, look no further than Peak District Survival School. It’s an investment that pays dividends.
I cannot recommend these guys highly enough. Great tuition from both Matt and Mark in learning the skills of knife and axe throwing including range set up, safety and everything required to instruct a course.
Murph provided a fantastic session of bush crafts and axe throwing for our team. It was very informative and really great fun. We’re all experts at lighting fires now! I would thoroughly recommend the Peak District Survival School and would happy book more activities in the future.
I had an incredible weekend on the Bushcraft Level 2 course and came away with so much knowledge. I couldn’t fault a single aspect and the instructors were very welcoming.
Had an excellent Level 3 Range Master Axe, Knife and tomahawk throwing course with Matt. Great instruction & coaching, I arrived a novice and left feeling competent and confident to run a range. Many thanks. Would definitely recommend.
Great course with lovely people, perfect location and beautiful weather. I really enjoyed this course and the relaxed and supportive atmosphere was great. Mark is very knowledgeable and encouraged us all to develop at our own pace. Great feedback too.
The 2-day knife and axe throwing course was brilliant from start to finish. Mark is an exceptional tutor and allows everyone to develop at their own pace. It is very much allowing participants to practice, explore and learn without ever feeling like you are being ‘lectured’ to.
I came away from the course having learned a huge amount, with a confidence to take these new skills away and use them immediately and having really enjoyed the 2 days in great company.
I wouldn’t just hesitate to recommend this course but I would actively encourage you to do it
I highly recommend this course to people at all levels of bushcraft.
Mark, Tim, Matt and Mike all have so much knowledge and every part of the course was extremely easy to follow and understand. Being taught by different leaders in various parts of the woodland made the whole course interesting.
A relaxed atmosphere and beautiful surroundings. Toilet and shower facilities also onsite which is always a bonus!
I came home and ordered lots of new bushcraft gadgets. Can’t wait to sharpen my knife on my new diamond ceramic whetstone!
I have just spent a great weekend on the Level 3 Wilderness Skills Range / Outdoor Axe & Knife Throwing Instructor Course. I can’t thank Mark enough for his instruction and time spend over the weekend developing our groups skills in axe and knife throwing. This led to us all running a session on the Sunday during which we were assessed and I am glad to say all passed successfully. I couldn’t recommend this course enough for anyone wanting to get a qualification in Axe and Knife Throwing which will allow you to run a really enjoyable activity.
I attended the two-day axe and knife throwing instructor course. Before the course, I had never thrown a knife of axe but now feel confident and competent to set up a range at the school where I teach. Mark was an excellent instructor; calm and encouraging. In additional to the technical aspects of throwing and running a range, there was plenty of opportunity for developing my own throwing skills.
We had such a lovely day with Mark! He is very knowledgeable and showed us some amazing things and places on our course. We managed to make fire from scratch which is something we won’t forget. Highly recommend booking with Peak District Survival School.
Always great courses combining a professional approach, in-depth wisdom and caring attitude.
Can’t wait to learn more!
I attended the Range Master qualification over the October half-term. Currently I’m employed in further education and as a college wish to extend our provision to students. We felt axe and knife throwing would be a fantastic addition to our college course.
Having never thrown and axe or knife before, this course provided a brilliant balance of hands-on experience whilst also exploring the health and safety risks, risk assessments and legal matters involved in the activity. Mark, Ray and Matt’s tuition was fantastic. The course gave a great balance of practicing personal skills, whilst discussing the organizational structure of the activity.
Excellent practical course on axe and knife throwing. Pleanty of practical building of both personal skills and session structure practice that made the course useful for instructors of all levels of experience. Friendly and professional coaches delivered the course clearly have extensive experience and had wide variety of hardware available for participants to try.
A fantastic 2 day Knife & Axe Range Safety Instructor course with Mark & his team in the Peak District. Can’t recommend them enough, incredibly welcoming, patient & professional throughout. I would definitely re book with them on another course in the near future
Excellent course Axe throwing course.
Mark and the team split us up into 3 teams that really worked well together and meant we had great support from our own instructor as we were in small groups. The venue was beautiful and suited the course well.
The equipment was excellent too and we were given all the information to run our own axe throwing programme in the future.
Can’t wait for my next course with Peak District Survival School.
This is the Perfect address if you are looking to explore and connect to nature. Mark and Matt provided us with magnificent few days where we not only became so much more knowledgeable about nature and survival skills but they were a huge amount of fun too. These are the guys with the skills and experience. Its worth while giving them a call as they are super accommodating.
What a fantastic time we had! The course taught me loads of new skills and information, as well as being a fun and enjoyable experience. The instructors are highly skilled and knowledgable in bushcraft, and had endless patience for all our questions, it was a pleasure to learn from them.
We attended the 2 day Axe & Knife throwing instructors course in the Peak District with a view to setting up a range as an additional activity to our existing business.
The whole instruction team and set up were exceptional from arrival to leaving, very clear, safe and professional whilst providing the motivation to push past your inner demons to fantastic effect. A special thanks to Ray who had just one job and did it fantastically … what a great guy!! 🙂
We left with not only a qualification and a head full of business ideas but a little bit broken (in a nice way) and having learned a little something about ourselves that will never be forgotten.
Thanks guys
informative, fun, down to earth,
Recently completed the Axe and Knife throwing course with Mark,
October 1-2nd 2022
A great course and team, that I would recommend to everyone,
The delivery team are professional and fun, you will leave having learned many new things and enjoyed every minute.
Great course, well planned with concise instruction and excellent resources. Instructional staff were amazing and well organised, thanks for a great weekend!
Mark led a very engaging and informative foraging walk for my Outdoor Education group around The Roaches. He was very knowledgeable and had a great manner with the young people. Will look forward to future adventures with him! Thank you.
Loved it really well structured. The trainers knowledge was amazing. Easy to talk to and wasnt afraid to answer questions and encouraged you to ask. I’ve learnt a lot from the course really enjoyed the fire by friction and identifying trees, plants uses, fantastic
Superbly ran course covering all aspects of the syllabus, at a pace accessible by all. Friendly and supportive staff, great setting, cracking food, plenty of new skills learned – especially food prep! Can definitely recommend the breakfast!
The weekend was extremely fun, very educational and also lots of walking so be sure to bring your walking boots. It was very good because it teaches you how to use and sharpen knives in a safe way and you learn a few handy tricks like making pegs etc.
Mark, Alex and Mike are very laid back fun teachers and made the experience that extra bit more fun.
I would definitely return but next time bring a bivvy bag lol! If I was to rate the weekend I would definitely give it a 5 out of 5!

Attended the survival school level 2 weekend
Absolutely brilliant weekend from start to finish. Alex, Mike and Mark have a vast knowledge and every moment of the course was educational whilst delivered in a fun safe way. I would strongly recommend this experience to anyone who has an interest in the great outdoors. I am already looking forward to following up with our next one.
Thanks again guys for the experience.
Mark planned a fantastic day for our Year 4 class based around the topic of Rivers and Mountains. The children loved every minute of it and fully engaged in the great activities along the way. The day ran smoothly and was all sorted by Mark. The children gained so much hands on experience which really brought their topic alive. Cross-sections of the river, speed tests, investigating the different stages of the river – all superb. Soggy socks and damp wellies just added to the smiles making an absolutely memorable day. Thanks Mark and Mike.
Having just finished our work with Mark and Mike delivering our Survival School lessons I highly recommend working with them. The children have gained so many skills towards their topics but also resilience, team work, co-operation and independence. Mark planned activities to fit perfectly into our Science, History and Geography and gave them real life, hands on experiences which they will remember. Watching what the children achieved week on week amazed us, how they grew in confidence, worked together and supported each other to complete whatever was asked of them. Thank you.
What a weekend, well who doesn’t like a axe throwing session!
This was a fantastic course Mark, from the moment we contacted you about axe throwing you have gone the extra mile to help.
Thank you for an amazing experience, professional instruction, practical advice, fun and laughs all the way.
This is just the start of the journey for Peak District Survival School & Logi Firewalking,

The roaches trip with Mark and associate was an excellent and educational trip.
The children were engaged from the start and learnt lots of facts about the roaches and it’s geographical features.
The walk was well planned so children could see different parts of the roaches and stories were shared along the way.
Myself and the class really enjoyed the day.
At the weekend I attended the Level 3 Wilderness Skills Range Instructor course. With tomahawk, axe & knife throwing.
This was by far one of the best outdoor courses I have attended in a long time.
Mark the instructor was a superb facilitator of learning bringing the best out of me and enabling me to realise my full potential, this was due to the encouragement and support he offered throughout the course.
Mark you are a star, thanks for your commitment to this particular discipline
Very professional with a relaxed manner. Really enjoyed our weekend with Ray and Mark, they are both very knowledgeable. Great weekend
Mark and co. were absolutely fantastic in delivering a stone age experience day at our school. The Year 3 pupils were transported back in time to another world where they created cave art and took part in simulated hunting! We all LOVED the day and the children really enjoyed every second
Such amazing & varied content that’s based on years of meticulous research & hard earned experience, is absolutely priceless. Add Foxy to the equation with his breadth & depth of knowledge & you have a recipe for some of the highest quality & most engaging outdoor education in the country today.
Outstanding professional training, delivered by an incredibly knowledgeable, patient & all round top bloke.
There are people that can teach & then there are inspirational teachers, like Foxy.
Hi Mark! Cheers for this weekend, had a great time considering conditions and found the course interesting and a great opportunity to test yourself in a wild environment. Felt really well looked after and enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere. Cheers Keiran!

Hi Mark , just wanted to say a huge thanks for this weekend. Can’t explain how much I enjoyed it and what it’s opened my eyes to . Best I can say was driving up the m6 looking at the trees on the side working out which way was south , silver birch for bark , sore some white fluffy seed heads and thought of kindling material . The weekend was both informative , fun and as I connected to being outside , food sources etc and thought about it on the way home was strangely emotional, which for a 49 year old guy seems weird to admit .
Thanks best regards Chris
The training you and your staff delivered was the best received I’ve ever known in 20+ years of teaching. School staff were very positive about the day and are looking forward to using their newfound skills.
I hope that when we speak next I can tell you about lots of staff delivering archery, mountain biking, foraging and fire-lighting at Cicely Haughton. Once again, thankyou to all of your staff for delivering a fantastic training day!
This was our third trip to The Roaches and Mark and his team were as fantastic as ever. They challenge the children to push themselves, whilst still remaining supportive and sensitive, and relate all of the activities to our learning. We will always book Peak District Survival School as they are so professional and welcoming, with a real knowledge and passion for what they do. Thanks again, Mark and the team!
Our Year 5 class had a fantastic day of outside learning all about the Vikings with Mark. They hammered their own amulets and loved learning to build their own fires.
They learned about food safety when making their own bread and burgers for lunch, and were fascinated at what could and couldn’t be eaten when foraging for greens too!
I can’t recommend Mark enough to fulfil your curriculum needs and give your pupils an experience they won’t forget in a hurry. In his planning of the day, objectives were carefully matched to the national curriculum and the pupils were given learning opportunities that could not be delivered in the classroom environment. All resources were provided, included ingredients for lunch and follow up materials for class. In the light of current school budget struggles, this day offered really excellent value for money! Most importantly, our pupils are still talking about how amazing the day was and we very much hope to welcome him back to school soon.
Mark is an excellent instructor, full of knowledge and can turn practically any curriculum area into a fun and engaging learning experience. The children loved the Stone Age day and gained more understanding in that one day than they would have done for an entire term’s learning in the classroom!
Cheers for this weekend, had a great time considering weather conditions and found the course interesting and a great opportunity to test myself in a wild environment! I felt really well looked after and enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere
