Matt Lloyd
Despite a predominantly urban upbringing Matt has always been a country boy at heart and a student of the great outdoors. From an early age Matt realised that being inside was not for him and spent as much time as he could outside in the garden learning about plants and trees, growing fruit and veg and starting fires at the bottom of the garden, much to the despair of the local fire department!
Upon leaving school Matt went on to study outdoor education and countryside management at university and during the completion of his diploma he started work as an instructor at an outdoor centre in the Peak District where he discovered that everything he had always been passionate about had a name, Bushcraft. Aided by a friend and mentor Matt broadened his knowledge and developed his skills and started running bushcraft courses and expeditions in the Peak District.
Having moved back to Bristol Matt started working in the family building company and completed his NCFE Level 4 Instructors and Mentors Award with Survival School in 2013 before setting up Survival School Bristol in 2014. After 7 years of running courses in the South West Matt closed Survival School Bristol and the building firm and relocated to South Derbyshire where he has purchased a young woodland with great aspirations to provide a 5 star venue for courses and return the living off the land through growing food, rearing livestock, foraging, hunting and managing the woodland for productivity and sustainability.
When he’s not running courses Matt can normally be found down at the woods with his wife and 3 cocker spaniels trying to complete an ever growing list of jobs!
