Why Peak District Survival School?
Peak District Survival School was founded in response to a clear and growing need within outdoor education.
Throughout my career as an outdoor instructor, trainer, and assessor, I have become increasingly aware of significant gaps in provision. Traditional outdoor education often excludes many groups and communities, while those seeking to engage through personal interest frequently struggle to find high-quality, accessible opportunities.
Some of our most memorable school experiences come from learning beyond the classroom. As adults, time spent outdoors—away from the pressures of daily life and immersed in nature—is something many of us actively seek and value.
Peak District Survival School exists to bridge those gaps.
Our Aims & Values
We are committed to creating a more inclusive, accessible, and meaningful outdoor education experience for all.
Inclusive Access to the Outdoors – We aim to widen participation by offering opportunities to individuals, families, schools, and communities who may not traditionally engage with outdoor education.
A Continuum of Learning – Our programmes are designed to provide a clear pathway of progression—from first experiences in the outdoors through to advanced skills, leadership, and accredited qualifications.
Partnership & Community – We work in partnership with local businesses, schools, and organisations to deliver affordable, high-quality provision that is both accessible and impactful.
Empowering Educators – We support teachers and school staff in becoming confident outdoor practitioners, leaving a lasting legacy of outdoor learning within their schools.
Safe, Skilled & Responsible Practice – All of our activities are delivered to the highest standards of safety and professionalism, with a strong emphasis on environmental awareness and conservation.
Lifelong Learning & Enjoyment – We believe outdoor education should be purposeful, structured, and challenging—but also enjoyable. Whether working with children, families, or adults, we create experiences that inspire confidence, resilience, and a lasting connection with the natural world.
